"Chinese Government Scholarship - Postgraduate Study Program"of Tongji University

I. Admission Requirements

i. International students studying in China are not eligible, and

ii. International students from joint-programs between China (Tongji University) and overseas organizations are not eligible, either.

iii. Applicants must be non-Chinese nationals and in good health.

iv. Applicants applying to study his/her native language or the language and literature of the third country such as English /French literature in China are not eligible.

v. The applicants must fill out the forms offered and provide the following materials (in duplicate).

Those who are available for online application shall fill in and submit the application form online first (http://laihua.csc.edu.cn Agency Code of TONGJI is 10247) and then submit the printed version and the supporting documents required by TONGJI University.

II. Application Requirements

i. Master candidates

a) Bachelor's degree, and under the age of 35;

b) Bachelor's Diploma (notarized photocopy), documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized translations in Chinese or English;

c) Original or notarized transcripts of all undergraduate courses, transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized translations in Chinese or English;

d) A study or research plan (no less than 800 words) in Chinese or in English;

e) 2 letters of recommendation by two professors;

f) Photocopy of valid passport;

g) The catalogs and abstracts of published academic papers;

h) The Application Form for International Students wishing to Study at Tongji University (http://study-info.tongji.edu.cn);

i) 410rmb application fee.

ii. Doctoral candidates:

a) Master's degree and under the age of 40;

b) Master's Diploma (notarized photocopy), documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized translations in Chinese or English;

c) Original or notarized transcripts of all graduate courses, transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized translations in Chinese or English;

d) A study or research plan (no less than 1000 words) in Chinese or in English;

e) 2 letters of recommendation by two professors;

f) Photocopy of valid passport;

g) The catalogs and abstracts of published academic papers;

h) 1-2 academic dissertations, articles or outlines of dissertation

i) The Application Form for International Students wishing to Study at Tongji University (http://study-info.tongji.edu.cn);

j) 410rmb application fee.

* In addition to the above application materials, the university may require applicant to provide supplementary materials, depending on the circumstances. Application materials sent by email are unacceptable. Application documents will not be returned.

NOTES: The first academic year for both masters and doctorial candidates is a probation year. Candidates are qualified to prepare a dissertation only after passing all the degree exams in the first academic year and after passing the interim evaluation. Credits scored on probation will be included in the total credits. Those who fail the degree course exams will be considered as advanced scholars.

Remarks:

* Applicants for architecture, urban planning, artistic design and industrial design are requested to submit one disk recording of their works (two sketches, two color paintings and two other works).

* Application materials will not be returned regardless of the result of application. Documents such as original diplomas must be kept at their own hand.

* If the courses for doctoral or master-degree candidates are conducted in Chinese language, they must provide HSK(Chinese language proficiency) certificate, at least Band III; Applicants without any Chinese language knowledge are compulsorily required to take it for 1 to 2 years; If the courses are conducted in English, the provision of HSK is not required.

III. The status of scholarship students during their stay in China

i. Waiver of fees on registration, tuition, laboratory experiment, internship and accommodations;

ii. Criteria of living allowance (Master: 3000RMB/Mon; Doctor: 3500RMB/Mon, respectively)

iii. Comprehensive medical Insurance and Benefit Plan for international students in China;

IV. Application Procedures:

1. Relative information from the item of "Study in china / Chinese Government Scholarship" on the homepage of the China Scholarship Council (www.csc.edu.cn),

2. Fill in and submit the application form online first at http://laihua.csc.edu.cn and then submit the printed version and the supporting documents required by TONGJI University. All application materials marked with "Applying for the Chinese Government scholarship" must be sent to the International Student Office of Tongji University before March. 15th, each year.

3. 410rmb application fee (the application fee is not refundable).
