Tongji University's medical discipline has embarked on a new chapter. On December 11, Tongji University and the Jing'an District Government of Shanghai signed a framework agreement to jointly establish Zhabei Central Hospital as an affiliated hospital of Tongji University. The aim of this collaboration is to create another top-tier university-affiliated hospital, strengthen regional medical and healthcare services, and advance Shanghai's health initiatives.
The signing ceremony was held at Tongji University, with key attendees including Fang Shouen, Party Secretary of Tongji University; Yu Tao, Deputy Director of the Shanghai Municipal Health Commission; Wang Xingpeng, Director of the Shanghai Hospital Development Center; and Yu Yong, Party Secretary of Jing'an District. Other notable attendees included Feng Shenhong, Executive Deputy Party Secretary of Tongji University; Chen Yihan, Vice President of Tongji University; Zhai Lei, Deputy Party Secretary and Chief Executive of Jing'an District; Long Wanli, Deputy Chief Executive of Jing'an District; and various other officials.
During the ceremony, Fang Shouen emphasized Tongji's rich history in medicine and its ongoing commitment to revitalizing and advancing medical education. Tongji Medicine has seen rapid growth, with its brand becoming increasingly recognized. Tongji and Jing'an have maintained a long-standing partnership, achieving notable successes in developing high-level affiliated hospitals. This agreement deepens their collaboration in medical services, aiming to establish a first-class regional medical center that meets tertiary hospital standards. Tongji University pledges its full support for Zhabei Central Hospital and the Affiliated Stomatology Hospital of Tongji University, contributing to the medical and healthcare landscape of Jing'an District, Shanghai, and the nation.
Chen Yihan and Zhai Lei signed the agreement on behalf of their respective institutions. The agreement outlines plan for the comprehensive development of Tongji University-affiliated hospitals. Jing'an District will provide enhanced support for clinical care, discipline development, talent recruitment, scientific research, education, and teaching. Tongji University will leverage its strengths in medicine, life sciences, and engineering to support the hospital's discipline development, talent recruitment, scientific research, and teaching endeavors.
Additionally, the Affiliated Stomatology Hospital of Tongji University and the Jing'an District Planning and Natural Resources Bureau signed a letter of intent for the land use of the new hospital project.
Medicine is crucial for top-tier universities. By prioritizing people's health, pooling resources, and revitalizing Tongji Medicine, Tongji University aims to contribute its expertise and strength to fostering a healthier Shanghai and China.
