Tongji University Professor Dr. ZHENG Jialin Elected as Member of Academia Europaea

Recently, Professor Dr. ZHENG Jialin, Dean of the School of Medicine at Tongji University, received a congratulatory letter from Professor Marja Makarow, President of the Academia Europaea, congratulating him on being elected as a Member of Academia Europaea (MAE) for the year 2024.

Prof. ZHENG Jialin is an expert in neurology and regenerative medicine. He serves as the Chief Scientist of a major national scientific research program, Director of the Basic Innovation Center for Medicine related to Brain Aging under the Ministry of Education, Director of the Key Laboratory of Anesthesia and Brain Function Regulation in Shanghai, Director of the Frontiers of Catalytic Medicine Research Base in Shanghai, member of the Strategic Guidance Committee of the International Brain Initiative (IBI) representing China, Director of the Guidance Committee of the Association of Academic Health Centers International (AAHCI), invited expert of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, member of the Teaching Guidance Committee for Basic Medical Sciences in Higher Education Institutions under the Ministry of Education, expert in clinical medicine professional certification under the Ministry of Education, and Vice President of Medical Education of the Shanghai Medical Association.

Prof. ZHENG has long been devoted to the study of the pathogenesis and treatment strategies of neurological diseases, especially focusing on the pathogenic role of microglia-mediated neuroinflammation and the precise treatment of neurological diseases with autologous reprogrammed neural stem cell exosomes. He has published more than 220 papers in internationally renowned academic journals. He has also been devoted to promoting the construction of an international medical education system and international exchange and cooperation, vigorously promoting the Outcome-Based Education (OBE) curriculum systems.

The Academia Europaea was jointly established in 1988 by the Royal Society of the United Kingdom and several national academies of sciences of France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden, etc. Its headquarters are in London, UK. As one of the most influential scientific organizations worldwide, the Academia Europaea consists of academicians from four faculties: natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, and life sciences, covering 23 disciplinary fields. Currently, it has around 5500 members, including nearly 90 Nobel Prize winners.
