Dear teachers and students,

Recently, novel coronavirus cases have been reported in Hubei Province and other localities in China. The University has paid close attention to the coronavirus outbreak and implemented important instructions given by the President XI Jinping and requirements placed by Premier LI Keqiang. According to plans of the Ministry of Education and Shanghai Government, the University immediately initiated the contingency plan for epidemic prevention and control, and asked for the entire university to be fully aware of the emergency and take the responsibility of joining the prevention and control efforts while putting the teachers and students life, safety and health in the first place, and going all out to make coronavirus prevention and control efforts on campus. Our efforts to be further made are briefed as follows:

I. to enhance the awareness of the overall situation and carry forward the Tongji spirit of Rowing Together Towards the Same Goal. In the face of the coronavirus outbreak, every teacher and student should Row Together Towards the Same Goal in times of difficulty. Do not believe rumors, and do not spread rumors.

II. to increase the consciousness of prevention and protection to improve environmental and personal hygiene. Read the guidelines and tips on the prevention and control of the coronavirus outbreak on the University WeChat public account and the University website. Do environmental disinfection, maintain personal hygiene, wash hands frequently, do room ventilation frequently, wear face masks in public places, and avoid attending gatherings and group activities. Watch your health closely. If you have respiratory symptoms such as fever, cough, shortness of breath, especially when you have travelled to or lived in Hubei Province 14 days before the onset of the illness, please go to the fever clinic of a hospital for medical treatment in time, and cooperate with the medical staff to conduct epidemiological investigation and provide detailed information. Please wear a face mask on your way to the hospital, avoid taking public means of transportation, and report your case to the University in time.

III. to strengthen your sense of responsibility and observe disciplines. According to the Ministry of Education’s Emergency Plan of Coronavirus Prevention and Control, to effectively block the spread of coronavirus, all students are required not to return to the University (especially students from Hubei Province) before the starting date of the next semester, postgraduate supervisors not to ask their students return back to the University prior to the beginning of the next semester, and all planned teaching and research practice and experiments are to be postponed. At present, the registration date is February 16th temporarily according to the University calendar. For students who cannot return to the University and register on time due to traffic control or other reasons, please contact your tutor in time, and your school/college will make further arrangement accordingly.

Students who need to return to the University ahead of time for special reasons, must apply for permission from the University and mind your personal protection. Prior to your return, you much report to your tutor or supervisor of your school/college for filing subject to consent by Tongji University Emergency Leading Group of Public Health and Safety. You are to state the reason of your earlier return and your schedule, explain truthfully whether you travelled to or lived in Hubei Province, and whether you had contact with any suspected patient of coronavirus-related pneumonia or animals. You should register at the dorm administration office immediately upon your return and pay close attention to your physical conditions to cooperate with the epidemic prevention work. When necessary, report to the responsible person of the dormitory in person or through your school, implement quarantine at a designated place as arranged by the University. If such symptoms as fever or cough are detected, please report to the University hospital in time.

Faculty and staff members who are still in Hubei Province (including those from the industry and logistics departments) are to obey the above-mentioned requirements. If you need to return to Shanghai under special circumstances, please contact your organization in time.
