On
the afternoon of October 18th, Dr. Marja Jäättelä, elected member of
Danish Royal Academy of Sciences, Finnish Academy Science and Letters and European
Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO), and also professor of Danish Cancer
Society Research Center, visited TUSM. Professor Zheng Jialin, Dean of TUSM,
Professor Cheng Yu, Assistant Dean of TUSM,
Professor Zhu Rui, Deputy Director of the Office of Academic Research, and Ms.
Shen Huixia, Director of International Exchange and Cooperation Office attended
the reception.
Our
presentation showed that TUSM has developed rapidly, gained outstanding
achievements in scientific research, and promoted extensive and frequent
international cooperation in recent years. With great interest, Professor Marja
raised qustions and exchanged ideas on the introduction presentation from time
to time. Professor Zhu Rui and Ms. Shen Huixia responded respectively.
Professor Zheng Jialin said that these achievements were closely tied to the
construction and implementation of our talent team. With the launch of China
Brain Project, TUSM will not only build a good environment to introduce
full-time research teams, but also promote the double-employment system of PIs
to combine basic research and clinical practice. The school will focus on research
on brain and spine, pulmonary cancer, gynecological cancer and cardiovascular
diseases. Meanwhile, a high-level collaborative platform for enterprises,
universities, and research institutes will be developed. The cooperation with
IFlytek will promote the application of AI in areas like early clinical
diagnosis. These will all create more favorable conditions for the promotion of
the scientific research practice and innovation ability of medical students.
After
listening to the introduction, Professor Marja inquired about the cooperation
with the PI teams. She hoped to find the clinical cooperation areas through
this visit, and expand further exchanges and cooperation in the field of cancer
research. Professor Marja and her research team have long been committed to the
study of lysosomes and cancer. Based on a large number of studies on the
molecular mechanism of lysosomes involved in apoptosis, a cationic amphiphilic
drug library (CAD Library) has been established. They attempt to screen CAD to identify
the best for cancer treatment. Till now, they have had certain achievements and
relevant academic publications in this field.
On
the morning of the visit, Professor Marja was invited to participate in the
Science and Technology Achievements Conference of Tenth People's Hospital of Tongji
University, and the 3rd Lingshi Forum—Seminar on Immune Inflammation and
Related Diseases, which was hosted by Shanghai Tenth People's Hospital, TUSM
and CSCCR (Chinese Society for Cancer Cell Research). Professor Marja also gave
an academic report entitled Repurposing Cationic Amphiphilic Antihistamines
for Cancer Treatment.
