The New President of the University of Sheffield Visited TUSM

On the afternoon of March 1, Professor Koen Lamberts, new President of the University of Sheffield, Dr. Malcolm Butler, Vice-President of Global Engagement, Dr. Lucy Zhao, Director of Sheffield Confucius Institute, and Michael Tang, China (Shanghai) Project Manager of Global Engagement, visited Tongji University School of Medicine (TUSM). Professor Zheng Jialin, Dean of TUSM, Ms. Shen Huixia, Director of International Exchange and Cooperation Office, Principal Investigator Professor Ge Baoxue, and PI Professor Xu Jun attended the meeting and visited research platforms of Basic Medical Sciences such as cancer immunity, stem cell therapy and other reseach directions. 


The delegation had a new understanding of the rapid development of TUSM. They also expressed their appreciation to our school for our participation in ACGME-I certification as the first medical school in China, for our constant efforts to forge ahead and strive to meet domestic or even world-class standards, and also for our great achievements in talent development, scientific research and public services. When it came to international brain initiatives and cooperation, President Koen believes that China Brain Project is facing its best time. As the host and undertaker of China Brain Project, TUSM actively integrated AI technology resources, and deployed and carried out key projects to solve health problems besetting China’s social development brought by autism in children, depression in middle-aged people and Alzheimer's disease in the elderly. President Koen expressed strong support for what we had done and conveyed his sincere willingness to cooperate futher.

 

In addition, the two sides also briefly reviewed the history of cooperation between our two universities, and expressed sincere gratitude to all the participants for their great contributions. It is eagerly expected that Joint Double PhD Degree Programs could continue and go futher. Meanwhile, the establishment of joint laboratories was proposed to realize deeper exchanges and cooperation in fields like discipline construction, curriculum design, talents development.
