The Second National Postgraduate Education and Faculty Training Conference for Family Medicine and the 10th Shanghai Sino-US Family Medicine Forum was held in Shanghai on October 18. The conference was hosted by the National Steering Committee for postgraduate Education of Medical Degree, General Medicine Branch of Shanghai Medical Association, Shanghai Sino-US General Practice Training and Exchange Center, undertaken by Medical School of Tongji University, Oriental Medical School Affiliated to Tongji University, Chinese Journal of General Practice. The meeting has also received energetic support from Shanghai Municipal Health Commission and Shanghai Wealove Foundation of Shanghai Charity Foundation. More than 300 supervisors of general practice postgraduates, standardized training teachers and teaching administrators from universities, hospitals and community health service centers attended the meeting.

Duan Liping, secretary-general of the National Steering Committee for Postgraduate Education of Medical Degree and deputy director of the Medical Department of Peking University, Yu Xiaosong, chairman of the general practice branch of the Chinese Medical Association and vice president of China Medical University, Huang Hong, Party committee secretary of Shanghai Municipal Health Commission , Harold Maurer, honorary president of the Medical Center of the University of Nebraska, Bradley Britigan, Dean of the Medicine School, University of Nebraska Medical Center, Xu Xiongxin, deputy secretary-general of Shanghai Charity Foundation, Sun Xiaoming, president of Shanghai Municipal Community Health Association, Jiang Chenghua, Secretary of the working committee of the Party of Department of Medicine and Life Sciences, Tongji University, Liu Zhongmin, director of Oriental Hospital Affiliated to Tongji University, Jiang Sunfang, chairman of general practice branch of Shanghai Medical Association and director of General Practice Department of Shanghai Medical College of Fudan University, Han Jianjun, president of Chinese Journal of General Practice, attended the opening ceremony. The ceremony was presided over by Zheng Jialin, dean of Tongji University School of Medicine. Huang Hong, Harold Maurer,, Jiang Chenghua and Liu Zhongmin, delivered speeches respectively.

In the meantime, the inauguration ceremony for the Huamu Community Medical Service Centre in Pudong New Area, the Community Medical Service Centre of Pengpu New Village Street in Jing'an District, the Community Medical Service Centre of Shiquan Street in Putuo District, the Community Medical Service Centre of Anting Town in Jiading District, and the Jinyang Community Medical Service Centre in Pudong New Area becoming the community Health Service Centers affiliated to the Tongji University School of Medicine, and the United Family Hospital becoming the Clinical Teaching Practice Base of Tongji University School of Medicine after the preparatory phase was held.  

Duan Liping, secretary-general of the National Steering Committee for Postgraduate Education of Medical Degree and deputy director of the Medical Department of Peking University, gave the keynote report entitled "Medical Professionals Training in the Visual Threshold of Enlarged Health". Scrutinizing the development of medical and health undertakings in new China, as well as the challenges and changes in the era of enlarged health, she systematically analyzed the current situation of medical and health talents in China and the needs of medical professionals cultivation from the perspective of enlarged health, introduced in detail the work carried out by the National Steering Committee for Medical Postgraduate Education, especially in the field of general practice,as well as the exploration and practice of high-level applicable medical talents cultivation in the medical department of Peking University. 

Yu Xiaosong, chairman of general practice branch of Chinese Medical Association and vice president of China Medical University, made a keynote report entitled The Current Situation and Prospect of the Construction of General Practice Teaching Staff`s Capacity. He introduced the present situation of domestic and foreign teachers' capacity building and put forward suggestions for the reform and development of general practice education based on the periodical literature research on the teachers' capacity building.  

In the report The Development Mode and Effectiveness Analysis Of General Practice Education And Training in Shanghai, Zhang Kan, director of the Department of Science and Education of Shanghai Municipal Health Commission, expounded the background and significance of overall planning of general practice cultivation, and introduced the training of general practice doctors and teachers in detail.

Bradley Britigan, dean of the Medicine School, University of Nebraska Medical Center, gave the speech entitled "Training the Physicians of Tomorrow". He compared the medical and health systems and health achievements in America with other countries, and introduced American medical student training system and mode in detail from the perspective of the change of medical and health services brought by medical education.

Jiang Sunfang, chairman of general practice branch of Shanghai Medical Association and the director of General Practice Department of Shanghai Medical College of Fudan University, systematically explained the clinical core abilities that doctors should acquire and how to improve these abilities in the report Clinical Skill Training and Assessment of General Practitioners, which provided beneficial reference for clinical skill training and assessment of general practitioners.
