To carry
forward Chinese traditional culture, promote Chinese and Western cultural
exchanges, and attract more people to appreciate Chinese ancestors’ wisdom of facing
natural cycle, the International Department of TUSM Student Union organized a
dumpling-making event in Xiyuan Canteen on November 17. Foreign and Chinese
students together experienced the fun of dumpling- making, and the scene was
lively for a time.
At the beginning, the host vividly introduced
the history and folk legends of dumplings, showing unique charms of Chinese
culture.
When students got started, they realized
that make dumplings was really challenging. Students who are proficient in
making dumplings taught skills to foreign students who made dumplings for the
first time, such as wiping a bit of water on the edge of the dumpling skin to
make them sticky and avoid the fillings out. Greenhands gradually learned the
skills with others’ help and felt joy of making traditional Chinese
food.
Two types of dumplings, one filled with
vegetarian filling, the other filled with cabbage mixed pork, were made after everyone’s
hardworking. Everyone was excited and satisfied when they ate the boiled
dumplings made by themselves.
