On December 10th, commissioned by Department
of International Cooperation and Exchanges, Ministry of Education, experts of
China Education Association for International Exchange visited Tongji University
to investigate undergraduate education for international students majored in
clinical medicine. GE Jingyi, deputy director of Shanghai Municipal Education Commission
International Office, YU Yu, director of Tongji University International Students
Office, leaders of Tongji University School of Medicine, directors of affiliated
hospitals, as well as related administrators of TUSM foreign affairs office,
teaching office and students office attended the report.
At the meeting, ZHANG Jun, secretary of party
committee of TUSM, expressed a warm welcome and heartfelt gratitude to the experts.
GE Jingyi, deputy director of Shanghai Municipal Education Commission International
Office, delivered a speech stressing the importance of international students’ education
quality which relies on the support from medical schools. ZHANG Xiumei, leader
of the survey group and director of Pharmacology Institute of Shandong
University School of Medicine, conveyed the purpose of this survey, which aims
to find common problems existing in national MBBS projects. YU Yu, director of Tongji
University International Students Office, introduced current international
students’ education situation in Tongji University and plans of improving
education quality. Finally, ZHENG Jialin, dean of TUSM, made a comprehensive
report from three aspects: school profile; enrollment, training and management of
MBBS project; difficulties and challenges.

After the meeting, Prof. FAN Jingyi from Pediatric
Department of Zhongnan Hospital Affiliated to Wuhan University, communicated
with MBBS students. Prof. ZHANG Xiumei had a conversazione with administrators and
teachers from TUSM to discuss the problems and difficulties in MBBS project. Prof.
ZHAO Yongna from Kunming Medical University School of Pharmacy, attended the
class to learn about MBBS teachers' teaching and students' learning.

Then, accompanied by relevant administrators,
experts reviewed documents of MBBS enrollment, training, management and
assessment.

In the afternoon, accompanied by YANG
Wenzhuo, assistant dean of TUSM, and relevant teachers, the expert group went
to East Hospital Affiliated to Tongji University for a field trip to learn
clinical practice condition of MBBS students. XU Zengguang, director of research
department and assistant to the president of East Hospital, made an introduction
of the hospital. The survey group then went to the ward and participate in MBBS
students’ clinical rounds. WU Desheng, director of orthopedics department, taught
students in fluent English passionately. Students reviewed knowledge related to
spinal injury during the ward round. Finally, the group checked related
materials and gave affirmation to the clinical education management of East
hospital.

Through in-depth exchanges and interactions
with experts, the further understanding of MBBS projects’ current condition and
national orientation has been gained and a profound analysis on MBBS project’s
management has been made. Experts gave affirmation to TUSM’s MBBS
education, and TUSM will make summary and reflection, overcome all sorts of
difficulties, maximum advantages to expand enrollment scope, and constantly
improve and guarantee MBBS education quality, to promote the development of
Chinese medical education for foreign students.
