Vice President of the SPAFFC Visited TUSM

On the afternoon of September 21st, a delegation of the Shanghai People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (SPAFFC) comprised of five members and led by Ying JING, current vice president of SPAFFC, made an on-site visit to the Huxi campus of Tongji University. The vice president of Tongji University Changjun JIANG, director of international office of Tongji University Xuemei YU, the party chief and dean of Tongji University School of Medicine, attended the meeting.

 

Vice president JIANG, on behalf of the university, extended a warm welcome to the visiting guests, along with a heartfelt appreciation for the unswerving support from the SPAFFC. He added, an unprecedented development opportunity is laying before Tongji Medical Discipline as the Huxi campus, proposed as the future site of medical school that sets a new stage for further development, is under intensive construction. The party chief and dean of the medical school respectively introduced Huxi campus plan proposal, including a few key goals to achieve in the years to come, emphasizing the significance of Huxi campus construction that is not only meant to be a new start for the rejuvenation of Tongji Medical Discipline but to fulfill Shanghai people’s expectations for Tongji University. The planning and design of the Huxi campus aimed to attract and retain domestic and overseas high-level talents, to allow medical school’s traditional advantages to full play, to optimize the integration of resources in such areas as brain intelligence, stem cells, and heart health, to tap the potentials of further cooperation with Germany and other countries, as well as to respond to a surge in need of high-quality health care system in the northwest of Shanghai's central city. Vice President Jing Ying concluded that both medical education and health care sector had been undoubtedly recognized as the cornerstone of Shanghai’s strength and prosperity. The long-term investment and sustained attention would be indispensable. In terms of strategical planning, external solidarity and cooperation should be enhanced based on respective strengths. Despite the ongoing impact of the worldwide COVID-19 spread on people’s health and well-being, it’s of even greater importance to carry out friendly exchanges between Chinese and foreign nations. Continuous efforts should be put in the construction of a good external environment featuring openness, cooperation and peace. To demonstrate that a friend in need is a friend indeed, Well done is better than well said.

 

In addition, the two sides pledged to promote mutual exchanges and sharing of resources in connection with the new development proposal of medical school, and to coordinate the efforts from the SPAFFC, the university, and local administrative authorities for better advancement of Shanghai's health care system.
