Recently, the China Association for Science and Technology released the list of the first batch of innovation bases of "Innovation China". Tongji University was on the list under the category of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Incubation.

The innovation base aims at helping China Association for Science and Technology promote collaborative innovation among industry, universities, and research institutes, and the transfer and transformation of scientific and technological achievements. It is a service platform to promote cross-boundary, trans-regional, and cross-border gathering and allocation of innovation resources and an important node to enable the development of grassroots organizations of the China Association for Science and Technology. The innovation bases are composed of three categories: industry-university-research institute cooperation, innovation and entrepreneurship incubation, and international innovation cooperation. Among them, innovation bases for innovation and entrepreneurship incubation will focus on incubating high-quality scientific and technological innovation enterprises and creating a good regional innovation and entrepreneurship ecology.

To give play to the spillover effect and promote the transfer and transformation of scientific and technological achievements. Tongji University takes the initiative to meet the major national development strategies and regional development needs, gives play to the spillover effect of its advantageous disciplines and basic research, and innovates the mechanism to promote the transformation of scientific and technological achievements. The university gives full play to the space and service of the University Science Park, adheres to the goal of "cultivating high-tech enterprises, promoting the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, cultivating innovative and entrepreneurial talents, and enhancing regional economic development", and draws on the advantageous disciplines of the university to provide an appropriate development environment, professional incubation services, and high-quality entrepreneurial talents for innovation and entrepreneurship. The university has been approved as one of the first batch of national intellectual property demonstration universities, one of the first batch of pilot units for the construction of specialized national technology transfer institutions in universities, and a base for the transformation of scientific and technological achievements and technology transfer in institutions of higher learning of the Ministry of Education.

To provide comprehensive and in-depth support to build an innovation and entrepreneurship service system of "three fulls and five links". The university has been engaged in innovation and entrepreneurship incubation services and has formed five complementary service links, namely "innovation enlightenment, entrepreneurship education, entrepreneurship funding, entrepreneurship care, and entrepreneurship acceleration", to ensure the full chain, full element, and full cycle of in-depth service support, so that college students entrepreneurship becomes an important part of the university's innovation and entrepreneurship talent cultivation system and an effective way to industrialize scientific and technological achievements. Tongji University's Science Park and incubator have been successively rated as "National University Science Park", "National Entrepreneurship Incubator", "National Torch Plan Tongji R&D Design Service Industrial Base", "National College Students Entrepreneurship Demonstration Park", "National College Students Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Practice Base", "National Entrepreneurship Incubation Demonstration Base" and "National Grassroots Entrepreneurship Innovation Demonstration Base".

Cultivate and support wholeheartedly, and grow a number of characteristic sci-tech innovation enterprises from the soil of university innovation. Through years of development, Tongji has incubated and cultivated a number of high-tech start-ups, including Tongchen Environmental Protection, Tongyan Civil Engineering, Zhonghui Ecology, Yuanhui Information, two national specialized "small giant" enterprises, 107 national high-tech enterprises, 20 Shanghai science, and technology "small giant"  enterprises (under cultivation), 27 Shanghai specialized small and medium-sized enterprises, 16 Shanghai master stations headed by academicians and domain experts, two municipal engineering research centers, and seven municipal patent pilot (demonstration) enterprises.

In the future, Tongji University will further strengthen capacity building for the development of innovation strategy and the cultivation of innovation and entrepreneurship talents, improve the work system for the transformation of scientific and technological achievements and the incubation of entrepreneurial enterprises, promote the formation of certain industrial clusters in combination with the university's advantageous disciplines, and devote itself to building a "symbiotic innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem" with Tongji University characteristics.
