On the morning of February 1, the 12th Congress of Tongji University of the Communist Party of China convened at the Campus on Siping Road. The Congress marks a crucial moment in embarking on a new journey to comprehensively advance the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation through in-depth study and implementation of Xi Jinping’s Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and the spirit of the 20th Party Congress. It is convened during the critical period when the university is making more contributions to make China a powerhouse in terms of education, comprehensively implementing the 14th Five-Year Plan, and vigorously advancing the new round of Double First-Class construction.
At the opening ceremony, party committees of sister universities, central and state-owned enterprise party committees, and grassroots organizations of various democratic parties sent congratulatory messages to the congress, celebrating its convening and expressing best wishes for its complete success.
Zhou Dawang, Director of the Department of Science, Technology and Informationization of the Ministry of Education of the PRC, attended the congress and delivered a speech.
Zhou Yaming, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee for Education and Health Work in Shanghai and Director of the Shanghai Education Commission, attended the congress and delivered a speech.
Fang Shouen, Secretary of the Party Committee of Tongji University, on behalf of the 11th Committee of Tongji University of the Communist Party of China, made a report.
Zheng Qinghua, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Tongji University and President of Tongji, presided over the congress.
The congress was attended by 300 delegates, with 12 on leave due to personal or academic reasons, resulting in 288 actual attendees. Officials from the Ministry of Education, the Organization Department of the Shanghai Municipal Party Committee, and the Party Committee for Education and Health Work in Shanghai were among the attendees at the congress. Additionally, teachers serving as deputies to the National People’s Congress or members of the Standing Committee of the Shanghai Municipal People’s Congress participated in the event. The gathering also saw the presence of leaders of democratic parties and united front groups at the school, alongside heads of affiliated hospitals. Party leaders of affiliated schools and middle-level non-party leaders of the university were also involved in the congress.
